Editing was a fun process for me, as I was able to see everything come together more. Place-holder playblasts were replaced by the final image seqeunces. Before doing so my cameras which contained cuts within them had to seperated into new folders as the image seqeuncer in Sony Vegas was creating blank frames between each new shot.

Creating camera cuts within Maya's cameras presented me with some blurry frames where the camera cuts would take place. These were simply removed from each one before being sequenced into Sony Vegas

VHS Styling

My choice for adding VHS effects to the final film spans from all my inspirations I mentioned early in the project, mainly the 90s cartoon Rockos Modern Life. My film takes place in 2002, at a time when Drag Racing and Nascar were very lively with spectators or as some would call the golden era. It is also set three years prior to my first visit to America where I picked up a lot inspiration for the project from. You will notice the date on the calendar in the opening scene but merely there as background detail. Choosing which style of VHS to go for was somwhat tricky, I wanted to convey this sense of time frame to my audience but without being told to them, for this reason I decided not to add any date stamps to the effect. As well as serving as a indication of time, it was also used to bring forward the presence of the television cameras. As I talked about in my post about my camera shots, I wanted to give the impression that the whole film was actually being filmed for TV at the time, this is reflected in many of the camera shots which are placed in areas where you will see trucks with cameras. They used these a lot at race tracks before drones were available to the public

I play blasted the animation to get a better reflection of how it all looked pieced together, I used updated play blasts as a basis to edit my footage on while my work was rendering on my pc, since I only had one computer the effectiveness of using play blasts became more apparent to me. This will show a lot of the changes that have been made over the course of the animating phase

here is the earlier playblast I done, which should demonstrate the areas that have been improved with the final takes

For my final soundtrack I ended up going all out with an American country/hip-hop band named The Good Ol' Boys, I'm guessing their name refers to The Dukes of Hazard. The title of the soundtrack is called Hangtown Speedway. It invokes the spirit and atmosphere that can be found at the American speedways and generally I enjoyed the vibes it had as it complemented the vibes I wanted to convey to my audience. Initially as I mentioned previously, there were two tracks in the 3D animatic. I decided to go with just one as it worked a lot better which the dialogue and I found of difficult to match two separate tracks even of the same genre.
